Cosmic Consciousness: a study in the evolution of the human mind. Richard M. Bucke

All at once, without warning of any kind, he found himself wrapped around as it were by a flame colored cloud. For an instant he thought of fire, some sudden conflagration in the great city, the next he knew that the light was within himself. Directly afterwards came upon him a sense of exultation, of immense joyousness accompanied or immediately followed by an intellectual illumination quite impossible to describe. Into his brain streamed one momentary lightning-flash of Brahmic Splendor which has ever since lightened his life; upon his heart fell one drop of Brahmic Bliss, leaving thenceforward for always an after taste of heaven. Among other things he did not come to believe, he saw and knew that the Cosmos is not dead matter but a living Presence, that the soul of man is immortal, that the universe is so built and ordered that without any peradventure all things work together for the good of each and all, that the foundation principle of the world is what we call love and that the happiness of everyone is in the long run absolutely certain. He claimed that he learned more within the few seconds during which the illumination lasted than in previous months or even years of study, and that he learned much that no study could ever have taught.

Life's challenges never end

I found myself being challenged again and again with various circumstances and with different people at work. Well, where else will be? Perhaps I should be cheerfully said, "Why not me?" I am just lucky to be situated in this school of hard knock. I then remember what Jonathan Parker said about situations and circumstances were specifically created for our benefits. Our enemy is not truly our enemy. They were just assigned by the divine to play a role of villain in our stage play. We should thank them for they were kind enough and brave enough to play such an unpopular role.

Seven weeks ago the saga just started when we had negotiated a different contract with a customer. Alas! things were never that simple. A goodwill gesture turned into a tug of war. A war about money, a war about ego. Essentially, our ordinary existence is to protect, nourish and enlarge our ego consciousness. Hence, the saga continues.....

An initiation - Our Ultimate Reality (Adrian Cooper)

Every single experience, positive, negative or indifferent happens for a reason, and in full knowledge of your Higher-Self. Each such experience is an opportunity to make progress towards a full initiatic experience and should be joyfully accepted as such without complaint, taking it personally and above all without blaming others.

Every single situation was known and chosen before we incarnated for its value in our ultimate evolution. If we fail the initiation then we have to experience similar circumstances over again until we finally pass the initiation which in some cases might take many "lifetimes". Therefore we must look closely at every event, however insignificant, dire or indeed joyful it might seem and ask ourselves these simple but important questions:

1) What does this event mean?

2) Why has it "happened" at this particular time?

3) What must I do to accept this situation, learn from it and never have to face it again?

In asking these questions and facing every situation we are presented with, however large or small, "good" or "evil", horrific or joyous, we can face the situation with total confidence and
ultimately prevail, thus attaining an important initiation towards our ongoing evolution.

Important points to keep in mind are:

1) There is no such thing as "chance". Everything happens for a reason.

2) Everything that happens to us we chose and knew before we incarnated.

3) We are never, ever, ever presented with a situation that is beyond our current ability to prevail. No harm can come to us.

In knowing, understanding and living our lives accordingly we can not only save ourselves considerable suffering, we can also save ourselves potentially many physical incarnations, because whatever a person fails to achieve in a current lifetime they will need to return again to pass that initiation in a further lifetime.

This is also a solution to the secret of "alchemy". The legend of the transmutation of base metals into gold is actually symbolic of the process of the transmutation of our base characteristics into the gold of perfection. The biblical fable of the turning "water into wine" is exactly the same process and meaning.

Knowing these important facts we can face life joyfully and with confidence, being thankful for every situation we are presented with as an opportunity to progress, in the knowledge that we are never presented with a situation that is beyond our capability, and above all no harm can ever come to us.

Change hour of my morning meditation

I have started since yesterday to move meditation hour from 5:00 am to 4:00 am. Incredibly, I do not feel any adverse effect even though I have just slept only 4 hours last two days. My energy is good and I do not seem to feel I miss any sleep.

Given such a short experiment, it can not prove that meditation is better than sleep in terms of relaxation and revitalizing of body and mind. I did find myself being restless after an hour and 45 minites' sitting, and my lower back was also bothering me. Well, we are a creature of habit, if we do something out of our comfort zone then our body or our mind will certainly let us know. The key is to expand our comfort zone gradually , then one day we will operate in a whole new level.

Jonathan Parker, my teacher, is the founder of Quantum Quest International. He practiced meditation every day between 3 to 8 hours for three years. He said that in that three years, all that he experienced was blank screen and nothing else. It was through determination and perseverance that he has reached the summit of great God Consciousness. In retrospection, I started to realize that I have not committed myself hard enough and long enough for the attainment of my objective. Anything worthwhile to achieve will require dedication and persistence for as long as it takes, even if it takes many lifetimes. I am all for it.

Meditative effect

I don't know if there is any reference about intoxicating feeling in meditation either in book or in Internet. So far, I could not find any information that can describe what I have felt while meditating. I first heard and read in "Autobiography of a Yogi" referring a deeper meditative sensation as "intoxicating".

I personally have not used any substance or gotten drunk for that matter, I certainly did not have experience of being intoxicated. I suspect the feeling can be somewhat similar to the blissful feeling in many of our extraordinary experiences when we are so focused, time seems to stop, and we are "in the zone". I remember when I read the book "Disapperance of Universe", there is a section of conversation mentioning the bliss of communion with the cosmic consciousness as thousands times more profound than anything we will experience in our normal life. I reckon my experience is not as fantastic, it is may be miniscule in proportion.

The reason I want to explore this subject is that no one has mentioned about that level of experience in definitive term. I heard and read about benefit of long-term meditation. It is well established that regular, deep meditation relaxes body, mind and spirit, even more astounding is that regular meditator can retard aging process due to the profound effect on some of the hormone producing glands. It is like having a second wing. Well, speaking of second wing, it is due to regular practice that I had many wonderful conscious astral travel experiences. To be true to my intention, I use meditation as a means for my spiritual advancement, I am not too concerned about my physical well being. Having understood the true nature of our existence, I have come to realize that the physical aspect of self is insignificant in comparison of our grander multi-dimensional self.

Last several months, I have not had single astral travel experience even though I have meditated in earnest, one and a half hours in the morning and forty five minutes during lunch hour. I surely missed it. I can understand that with the current level of my development, I simply have no control over the frequency of its occurence. I will learn what I need to learn at any given moment, and the knowledge and wisdom will unfold and reveal to me at its natural course. I can not expedite the process. There is time for everything.

The Power of the Subconscious Mind--from Adrian Cooper

I receive numerous messages every week regarding the question of
the differences and significance in practical terms between
the conscious and subconscious mind.

The first thing we should always know beyond any doubt is that the
entire Universe and everything within the Universe at all levels,
all dimensions and all manifestations is "Mind". Everything,
without exception is a manifestation of the supreme Mind of The
Source, The First Cause, of "God". This Mind is infinite,
conscious, intelligent, Energy, often known simply as "Spirit".

As human beings we are individuations of Spirit, this Infinite Mind
of "God" through which "God" experiences and thereby evolves and
expands. The entire Universe is in a perpetual state of expansion
and evolution. It is important to keep in mind however that
although we are "individuations" of The Source, i.e. individuated
Energy configurations within the Universal Energy field, we are also
still integral aspects of this Energy field and therefore of God;
there is no separatedness in the Universe; everything is one.

In order to understand this better we only need look at quantum
physics which is discussed in considerable detail in Our Ultimate
Reality for this very reason.

Because the Universe is infinite intelligence of which we are all
integral aspects, Quanta of Energy are influenced by the Mind;
thought also being pure Energy. Whenever you look at a "possession"
such as a house, a car, a television set, they are in fact nothing
more or less than an arrangement of Energy, or "Quanta", ultimately
created by thought processes of the Mind. If these objects were to
be inspected very closely, it would be apparent that they are not
solid at all but are rather composed of Quanta of Energy vibrating
and moving at extremely high rates in an out of the object being
observed.

Nothing can exist permanently unless it is observed because it is
Mind that controls and shapes Quanta of Energy, and without that
focus of the Mind the Quanta would once again become a "quantum
potential" for something else. If for example everyone in the world
were to cease observing the world and everything in it, by ceasing
to focus on it's perceived existence, then everything would cease
to exist. There would be no thought Energy to maintain the illusion
of its existence anymore. This is why the Earth and everything it
comprises, as well as the entire three-dimensional Universe is
referred to in some cultures as "maya", and illusion. The Earth and
physical Universe are indeed an illusion and a grand scale, and
will one day be realised as such by all mankind once evolving
beyond the illusion of the physical Universe.

Quantum physics completely confirms this by recognising that
something can only actually come into "existence" when it is
observed. Of course "existence" is a term relative to the five
physical senses; everything that exists now has always existed and
always will exist, it is only the illusion of form that changes in
response to thought, Mind. When something is observed, Quanta come
together to form sub-atomic particles, and in turn atoms, then
molecules until finally something manifests in the physical world
as a localized space-time event that can be observed by the five
physical senses.

This process is the very basis of how each and every person creates
their own reality. Every single thought, as Energy, directly and
instantly influences the quantum field causing Quanta in the form
of Energy to arrange themselves into a localised, observable event,
object or other influence.

So where does the subconcious mind come into this?

Well quite simply in order to create our desired reality we must
focus our thoughts in order to influence the Quanta of the Universe
and bring ourselves into vibrational harmony with our desires. In
doing this the hitherto formless substance around us, the Quanta or
Spirit from which all things are made takes shape in accordance
with our thoughts, and when we come into vibrational harmony with
this formless creation it can then manifest into our physical world
as a physical manifestation where it can be enjoyed.

Where most people "go wrong" is that they have no control over this
creative process. The conscious mind, our everyday, waking mind is
heavily influenced by the demands of the ego, and seeks to filter
and logically analyse everything presented to it through thought or
any of the five senses, only allowing thoughts tp persist that are
consistent with what it considers to be "logical" and in accordance
with the materialistic demands of the ego.

This is why most people are constantly creating unwanted realities;
usually without thinking about it or realising it.

The solution therefore is to bypass the filters of the conscious
mind in order to access the extreme power of the subconscious mind.

There are three fundamental aspects to Mind; the conscious mind, the
subconscious mind and the super-conscious Mind. By impressing our
desires on the subconscious mind the subconscious mind will
interact directly with the super-conscious Mind where our thoughts
and therefore desires take shape, and then brings us into
vibrational harmony with our dsires so they can manifest into
physical, experiential reality.

We cannot experience anything unless we are in vibrational harmony
with that which we are experiencing. Everything we are experiencing
at this moment is a direct result of our thoughts and of being in
vibrational harmony with that thought experience; and this applies
equally to positive, negative or neutral experiences.

Although affirmations can be very powerful, they are often
intercepted by the logical, ego driven conscious mind, analysed and
then rejected as being "impractical". For example; we might repeat
an affirmation such as "I have a new car". The conscious mind
immediately picks-up on this and says something like "don't be
ridiculous, you are still driving that old wreck of a car". And so
it will be that you continue to perpetuate the reality of, and be
in vibrational harmony with the "old wreck of a car".

Our objectives are clear therefore. We must bypass the filters of
the conscious mind in order to "program" the subconcious mind with
our desires. The subconscious mind is sublime; that is to say it
never, ever questions anything. The subconscious mind will
willingly accept anything presented to it, intentionally or
otherwise, and bring it into reality. This is why we must be very
careful indeed about what we impress upon our subconscious mind.

This is particuarly true just before sleep at night and just after
awaking in the morning. At these times we are most closely in
communication with our subconcious mind. This knowledge can be
extremely powerful in that if we use these "windows of opportunity"
to communicate our desires to our subconscious mind, the
subconscious mind will accept them and bring them into our
experiential reality.

However, if we take to bed our worries, concerns and fears then the
subconcious mind, being sublime, will also act upon those thoughts
and bring them even more into reality. So if you go to bed at night
being worried about debts for example, you will attract more even
more debt. It is extremely important therefore to ensure that
before you sleep at night, or any other time for that matter, you
only keep in mind those thoughts that are compatible with your
desires. If this is done consciously it can be a very powerful way
of manifesting your desires.

Volition

A volition is the act or an instance of making a conscious choice; the power or faculty of choosing.
A volition consists of a series of continuous, undiscourageable, unceasing determinations and acts revolving around a desire, until it becomes dynamic enough to produce the much-craved result.

There are times in our life, volition is needed in every turn of our path in order to attain our life-long objective.

I had a hard time falling to sleep last night until about 1:00 am, I set my alarm to wake up 4:45 to meditate. When the alarm sounded, I almost tried to turn it off and went back to sleep. But I am glad that I didn't. I fought back the desire to go back to sleep and followed my schedule to meditate 1 and 1/2 hour. Even though I had to spend at least 10 minutes to clear my thought, I felt triumphant after the meditation.

For the last several days at work, I am happy with the action and attitude that I had towards some personnel in other company. I believe I handled the situation well. In addition to the right attitude, I presented my case very convincingly. Finally the other party had agreed with my finding and my conclusion. The situation is by no means resolved, but that section of the issue is cleared.

Come to think of life, most of people seems to fully immerse in the physical world without any inkling of our truer and grander reality. The result of this kind of attitude is division and conflict.
The notion is forever you or I, yours or mine, win or lose, have or have not, good or bad, the typical polarity of the physical dimension. The ultimate reality is that whatever we experience in life, be it pain or pleasure, all but entertaining and learning opportunity for our higher self. It is only the ego that always gets in the way of judging and labeling the situation as good or bad.
